Dear President Obama, Speaker Boehner, and Leader Reid: We’re counting on you to prevent student loan interest rates from doubling from 3.4% to 6.8% next Monday, July 1st.
Student debt is a national crisis. The average graduate owes more than $26,000. Collectively we owe more 1 trillion dollars of student debt. If rates double on July 1st, 7 million of us will owe another $1,000 per year.
We can’t afford it.
Remember: student debt affects our entire economy; it hinders our ability to buy cars, afford homes, and start families.
So please: make a deal, and don’t double our rates!
