The Facts

  • Open enrollment in the health care exchanges, also know asĀ Obamacare, begins today.

  • Over 90 percent of uninsured millennials will be eligible for free or reduced-cost coverage and nearly 3.5 million young people will be eligible for Medicaid coverage.

  • More people will qualify for Medicaid in 2014 which provides free or low-cost coverage for some low-income Americans, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Why We Should Care

  • Starting New Years Day, young Americans will have guarantees of coverage for mental health, birth control, and preventative care, and check ups.

  • You have from October 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014 to enroll in a healthcare plan. Those who chose to opt-out of enrollment will be charged a fine of $95 per adult or 1 percent of household income, whichever is greater.
