YOUTH VOTE PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN ELECTION 2012
According to CIRCLE, at least 22-23 million Millennials or 49% of all young Americans turned out to vote in yesterday’s election.
Many political pundits and polls prior to the election said there was an enthusiasm gap among young voters and predicted that young Americans would not have high turnout.
WHY WE SHOULD CARE
In swing states like Ohio, Virginia, Florida, and Pennsylvania, if half of the youth voted for Romney or if most of them didn’t vote altogether, our demographic alone would have had the power to change the results of the election.
OUR TIME OPINION
This year’s election proved that youth are becoming a key voting bloc and if candidates don’t take us into account, it could have consequential effects on the outcome of their campaign.
