AIDS Awareness
THE FACTS
There are over 1.2 million people living with HIV in the US, and a fifth are unaware of their infection.
The rate of HIV infection in young Americans has increased by 21% in the last four years. If the government does not increase the funding for AIDS prevention then the CDC research team in collaboration with John Hopkins University predicts a 38% increase in HIV by 2020.
By investing 4.5 billion dollars in AIDS prevention the US health care system could save over $104 billion in medical care costs down the road, and could save over 7.4 million lives.
Why We Care
There are over 400,000 young Americans with AIDS and every hour two more become newly infected with the virus.
Last year there was a $44 million dollar decrease in AIDS research while the number of young American’s with AIDS continues to rise.
Our Opinion
We should continue to invest in finding a cure for HIV/AIDS as well as providing care for the millions of people living with it today.
