OUR TIME DAILY TRANSLATION
We've heard you say it many times: "Politics is like a foreign language." Well, we agree.
Each week, we summarize, simplify, and interpret different major news stories and how they affect our generation. We'll give you our take, and you can decide for yourself.
ARE WE CREATING MORE PROBLEMS THAN WE’RE SOLVING WITH VOTER ID LAWS?
THE FACTS
Voter ID laws require voters to show government issued identification (such as a driver’s license or passport) before they’re allowed to cast a ballot.
About 18% of citizens aged 18 to 24 do not have government issued ID’s.
In some states, student ID’s issued by colleges and universities don’t fit the laws’ strict and burdensome requirements.
WHY WE SHOULD CARE
The Voter ID laws threaten to disenfranchise thousands of young Americans who don’t have government issued ID’s from being able to take part in the 2012 General Election.
OUR TIME OPINION
We should be making voting easier for people rather than more difficult.
