OUR TIME DAILY TRANSLATION
We've heard you say it many times: "Politics is like a foreign language." Well, we agree.
Each week, we summarize, simplify, and interpret different major news stories and how they affect our generation. We'll give you our take, and you can decide for yourself.
CHICAGO TEACHERS GO ON STRIKE
THE FACTS
For the first time in 25 years the Chicago Teacher’s Union has gone on strike, demanding better compensation, job security, resources for their students, and the continuation of the same health benefits they’ve had in the past.
More than 29,000 teachers and education professionals in Chicago, IL will not be going to work, and 350,000 students will be missing school every day of the strike.
WHY WE SHOULD CARE
While we may be going through tough economic times, sufficiently funding our public education system and its employees should be a top priority.
OUR TIME OPINION
Our governments should be balancing budgets by cutting wasteful spending rather than denying our teachers and schools the resources they need to educate the next generation of Americans.
