Despite the repeated claims by some groups that voter fraud is rampant, the only major study of the issue found little evidence that extensive fraud problems actually exist.
Some groups, such as “True the Vote” are using software to search for and challenge voter registrations, but their methods have incorrectly identified a significant number of eligible voters as being “ineligible to vote.”
WHY WE SHOULD CARE
There is no significant evidence that such voter fraud exists, but there is significant evidence that these overzealous efforts to purge ineligible voters will ultimately disenfranchise eligible voters.
OUR TIME OPINION
Without evidence of significant voter fraud problems, we should not be aggressively challenging so many eligible voters.
