OBAMA TO STOP DEPORTATION OF YOUNG IMMIGRANTS
THE FACTS
This morning, the Obama administration announced it would halt deportations of some undocumented migrants, a policy which will affect up to 800,000 immigrants.
Undocumented immigrants that:
- Entered the United States before they turned 16 and are younger than 30,
- Have no criminal record,
- Graduated from high school or earned a GED,
- Or served in the military
will be immune to deportation.
o The administration argues that undocumented immigrants meeting the above qualifications contribute more than they detract from American society.
Why We Care
This represents a huge shift in American immigration policy. Its enforcement will not only affect the young immigrants now immune from deportation, but all will also impact all Americans.
