THE FACTS

  • Young Americans 19-29 years of age are highly entrepreneurial, social media-savvy, and prefer freedom and flexibility in the workplace.

  • 47% of young Americans surveyed work or companies with less than 100 employees. 30% work for companies with between 100-1500 employees.

WHY WE SHOULD CARE

  • Not wanting to be under-employed in a retail job, many young workers are looking to the start-up industry for opportunities; for small business environments, where their social-media driven data-mining and marketing skills can be put to more immediate use.

OUR TIME OPINION

Unemployment and under-employment present serious hurdles to young Americans. Our generation is increasingly drawn to start-ups and small businesses that also tend to be more socially responsible; they are entities willing and able to utilize the younger generation’s 21st century skill set.
