I can't believe it's been 50 years since Al Green released his iconic song "Let's Stay Together" back in 1971. I was just a wee little baby when this soulful tune came out, but now time has passed so quickly and it is 2019. Seems like not that long ago that the song became popular; maybe because of its catchy lyrics or because people could relate to the subject matter about love, which never goes out of style. Either way, let's take some time to reflect on how music has evolved over the years with artists like Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Kanye West releasing new albums shortly after Al Green did all those years ago.
One of my favorite songs is Green's "How to Slip Away" because it takes me back to when I was younger.
We all know the feeling. We wake up on a Wednesday morning, and it feels like we just got into bed last night. Or you're in the middle of an intense game of pickup basketball, but somehow time flies by and before you know it, your team is battling for victory while some other guy has scored four points on you already. It's funny how time slips away when we don't realize or even care about its passing.
Remember when we were kids and it seemed like time was going by so slowly? But now that we're older, years just pass us by. I remember it as if it was yesteryear, but in reality, the year is still young.
You may not know this, but time is slipping away. You might be thinking "what does that mean?" Well it means you're getting older and there's really nothing you can do about it (unless you're immortal like most of the people reading this). There are many ways to make your life better, including doing things that make you happy, or taking care of yourself with a healthy diet and regular exercise. But if we don't stop time from slipping away, then one day we'll wake up old and realize all our best years are gone. What will we have left then? Nothing but memories! So let's not take any more days for granted because they won't come back once they've gone.
Ain't it funny how time slips away by the original recording artist, Hall and Oates. The song was released in 1973 and is still a classic today. It's known for its catchy chorus which goes "Ain't it funny how time slips away? Ain't it hard to get ahead these days?" I love the way that this song talks about how we need to take advantage of our time because we never know what tomorrow might bring.
Music has been a part of my life since I can remember. I have always enjoyed listening to the oldies and now that I am older, it is great to reminisce on those songs from when we were all young. One of my favorite oldies is "Funny How Time Slips Away" by Al Green. This song was written in 1968 but still sounds as good today as it did back then! The lyrics are so meaningful and they really speak to me about how time moves too quickly and we need to enjoy every moment because you never know what will happen tomorrow!
"I just don't know how time slips away, I'm not the same man I used to be. Now there are lines on my face and hair in my eyes, but when you're gone the years all seem to fly." Elvis Presley's song "Funny How Time Slips Away" is a deep reflection of his life before fame. It reflects an understanding that once he became famous at 19 years old, he would never have this type of freedom again. He understood the toll it took on him day-to-day to live up to expectations while also being so young.
The haunting and beautiful song "Al Green Funny How Time Slips Away" is a staple in any R&B/Soul playlist. It has been covered by many artists over the years, but Al Green's original recording of this song is still my favorite. That may be because his voice soothes me or it could be that he manages to capture the essence of this classic country-soul ballad with just his powerful vocals and acoustic guitar. The lyrics are also moving as they tell the story of how time slips away from us when we are not paying attention.
The memories of our lives can be seen in the light and shadow that time casts. As we pass through this world, there are moments when it seems as if we have all the time in the world to accomplish what we want to do - yet before long, those days slip away from us like sand between our fingers. Our past is always with us whether or not we realize it; but how much more so will these memories mean for you because they were captured by a photographer whose eye was attuned to see them? al green funny how time slips away
