OUR TIME DAILY TRANSLATION
We've heard you say it many times: "Politics is like a foreign language." Well, we agree.
Each week, we summarize, simplify, and interpret different major news stories and how they affect our generation. We'll give you our take, and you can decide for yourself.
LEFT BEHIND
THE FACTS
The United States added only 80,000 jobs to the economy in June.
58% of the new jobs created in 2012 have been filled by workers aged 55 and older.
Older workers tend to be more attractive to employers because of their job experience.
WHY WE SHOULD CARE
Young Americans are unable to develop necessary job experience while unemployed, and therefore are unable to develop skills that will make them employable in the future.
Lack of jobs is causing young Americans to delay important life events, such as marriage, buying a house, having kids, and saving for retirement.
OUR TIME OPINION
At a time where 1 in 2 recent graduates is jobless or underemployed, we need young Americans to develop workforce experience so that when older Americans retire, we can comfortably fill their positions.
